Arajet, a new Caribbean airline, has launched in the Dominican Republic. The carrier is a full-fledged relaunch of the former Dominican Wings low-cost carrier. Arajet is taking the low-cost description a step further, and is billing itself as the first ultra-low-cost airline in the Caribbean region. Arajet will be based at Las Americas Airport in Santo Domingo, with a fleet of new Boeing 737-8 aircraft.
First flights will be announced soon. These initial flights will provide service between Caribbean and Central American destinations. The company plans to add service to North American markets with substantial familial ties to the Dominican Republic, such as New York, Boston, Chicago, and Miami.
