Puerto Rico gets the Hunter Thompson treatment in Johnny Depp’s latest film, The Rum Diary. The movie is based on the novel of the same name, written when Thompson was in his early 20s and working at the San Juan Star, back in the early 60s.
This is a passion project for Depp, and over the years actors such as Nick Nolte and Benicio del Toro have been attached. The cast finally locked down with Aaron Eckhart, Amber Heard, Richard Jenkins and Giovanni Ribisi joining Depp.
Fans of Depp, the good Doctor Thompson and Bacardi should have a great time with this one. All reports have the movie upping the ante on the drunken hijinks. And San Juan – an underrated city in my opinion - looks great in the trailer.
